People have been left horrified after hearing how one woman's children are plotting to stop her from selling her home, as they think it should be part of their inheritance.
Based in England, the 70-year-old mum is reportedly looking to downsize after her husband, the father of her children, died.
The widow finds the 'house is too big for her' and wishes to find a 'more affordable' home so she can save 'towards any future care costs she may need.'
Unfortunately, her 'ungrateful children', as they have been dubbed online, have other ideas.
The trio, aged 43, 41, and 39 don't want her to sell the family home, and they are looking into measures to stop her from doing so.
Explaining their reasons in a post to Reddit, where the youngest child turned in search of legal advice, the family member complained: "She wants to sell the house, keep all the money and have it spent within her lifetime so there would be absolutely no inheritance for me or my siblings."
They added: "We've tried to compromise. We've said that between the three of us, we could offer a slightly reduced offer but rent the house out and give her the proceeds until we've made up the difference in the value of the house. She said absolutely not. She wants the house off her hands and wants the full value since she it is her property bought with her own money. Well, we can't afford that."
Tragically, it sounds like the issue could divide the family. Explaining the parent's reaction, the post's author said: "She says we have no legal standing and we are incredibly selfish as we are only viewing her as what she describes as a cash dispenser. That's not the case at all. We just feel that this house should be our inheritance and remain in the family and it's entirely unfair for it to be sold on and for us to be left with nothing."
The child added: "Our mother says she'll not bother keeping a will and exclude us all at this rate if we pursue with this."
However, several Reddit users refused to help the questioner, when they asked users for legal advice.
"There is almost nothing more disgusting to me than people fighting over inheritance or even feeling entitled to it," said one person. A second replied: "What a bunch of goblins, waiting for mom to die so they can cash out."
Social media users shared similar responses after a photo of the post was shared on Twitter by @BusinessmanLego, who wrote: "I hate all these ungrateful children."
Someone replied: "Not going to lie. If they want the house. They need to get their money up. How you trying to cheat your mother out of something she worked hard to earn." Meanwhile, a different commenter thought: "I feel like there's middle ground here but clearly she feels she can't trust them so she has to do what's best for her."
