Unforgotten fans were delighted following the return of DI Sunny Khan, played by Sanjeev Bhaskar, and his new boss DCI Jessica James played by Sinéad Keenan. The popular cold case drama, written by Chris Lang, made its comeback with series 5 on Monday, February 27.
The new season's launch saw Sunny and the team grieving the loss of DCI Cassie Stewart, a character played by Nicola Walker for six years, following her shock death at the end of season four, and, of course, the introduction of Jess James. However, following the first episode, which kicked off at 9pm on ITV1, viewers were left torn after realising ITV bosses had dropped all six instalments of the new series on their streaming platform ITVX. While some reveled at the fact they could binge all of series five, others were disappointed that not everyone would be watching the show weekly, with can often create a buzz among fans.

Upon realising all episodes were available on ITVX, one viewer commented: "I'm sad people can binge. I've always enjoyed watching a cult favourite episode by episode together with the rest of the nation!"
While another added: "Tut tut @ITV Unforgotten. All boxset new series on @ITVX__ Some dramas fine once a week get buzz talked about more! look how well #HappyValley did! Far too eager kill off ITV1 ratings now, linear still important in future great advert for shows as BBC proved."
Responding to the above comment, one person said: "I'll still be watching weekly. Still enjoy the old-school viewing habit for certain shows. As a second viewer agreed: "Definitely creates more buzz around a drama, ITV should keep some weekly learn from how well BBC #happyvalley3 did sticking to weekly!"
Many people were chuffed they had the option to binge, however, after enjoying the first episode. "The whole of series 5 of #Unforgotten is on ITVX, I'm going in!!," said one.
