Unexploded bombs discovered at Scots property as emergency crews race to scene

Two unexploded bombs were discovered in the grounds of a Scots property.

Emergency services raced to Main Street in Strathpeffer, Highlands, after the alarm was raised at around 2.30pm on Wednesday.

Local reports suggest that two devices were found by tradesman working in the village.

The devices are believed to have been found close to the Ben Wyvis Hotel.

Police cordoned off the scene and a bomb squad was contacted.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report that two ordnance items were found in the grounds of a property on Main Street, Strathpeffer, around 2.30pm on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

“Officers remain at the scene and EOD have been contacted.”

An MOD spokesperson said: "I can confirm that a NAVY EOD team from DTXG, C Sqn, attended Main Street in Strathpeffer, Highlands at the request of Police Scotland. The team identified 2 x mortar bombs. The items were moved to a safe location and destroyed."
