Unexpected closure for Lanarkshire swimming pool after 'major issue' found

A Lanarkshire swimming pool is set to be closed unexpectedly for two days this week.

A problem has been found with the boilers at the Rutherglen and Cambuslang centre's pool that will force it to close, and it is unlikely to open again until next week.

Rutherglen Central and North councillor Janine Calikes posted on Facebook about the news, saying she had just been sent an email by South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture about the closure.

The pool is a popular location locally, particularly during the school summer holidays.

The message from the leisure body stated: "Due to an major issue with our boilers at Lifestyle Eastfield, we are preparing to close the pool from tomorrow, likely to be until the end of the week.

"A temporary boiler installation is arriving today and hopefully will be up and running to re-open on Monday morning.

"HTR services are working hard to ensure this happens. All other services remain open in the meantime."

The pool currently holds free swimming sessions for under 16's during the school break, which take place every Tuesday from noon until 3pm.

The free sessions are part of the Festival of Fitness programme that is running throughout the summer.
