Unearthed video shows Nicola Sturgeon asking for donations to 'ringfenced' referendum fund

Unearthed video footage of Nicola Sturgeon encouraging independence supporters to give money to a “ringfenced” referendum fund has emerged.

The former first minister delivers a personal address which was uploaded to a campaign website.

She states: “You can pledge your support for Scotland’s referendum at www.ref.scot.”

The SNP raised at least £482,000 in an appeal in 2017 on the website ref.scot, with the party pledging the cash would “only be used for the specific purpose of a referendum campaign”.

Around £200,000 more is thought to have been raised in appeals up to 2020.

Earlier this month we published footage of Sturgeon insisting SNP finances had “never been stronger” .

During a meeting of the party’s ruling body in March 2021, Sturgeon can be seen warning officials to be “very careful” about suggesting there was “any problems” with the party accounts.
