Netflix has launched new series, Uncoupled, on its streaming platform. The series, which is headlined by How I Met Your Mother actor, Neil Patrick Harris, focuses heavily on themes of LGBT+ and has been co-created by Darren Star, who brought us Emily in Paris, Sex and the City, and Jeffrey Richman, who is responsible for Modern Family.
Uncoupled introduces viewers to Michael Lawson, a gay real estate broker in his mid-forties who lives in New York City with his partner of 17 years. His world is shattered when, out of the blue, his long-time boyfriend ups and moves out.
But who else is in this new Netflix series, what's it all about and how many episodes are there?
Who is in Uncoupled?
Neil Patrick Harris
One of the most famous faces on the planet, Neil Patrick Harris is known for playing the title character on the ABC series Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989–1993), Barney Stinson on the CBS series How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014) and Count Olaf on the Netflix series A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017–2019).
It seems to have been a busy year for Harris, as just recently he was cast as the main villain in Doctor Who's 60th anniversary, which also sees both David Tennant and Catherine Tate return. In Uncoupled, he plays the lead character of Michael Lawson.
Tuc Watkins
Tuc Watkins plays Colin, Michael's boyfriend of 17 years who works as a hedge fund manager in New York City. On his 50th birthday, he abruptly decides to take space from his long-term relationship for reasons that aren't clear to Michael.
Tuc's previous roles include David Vickers on US soap opera One Life to Live, as well as roles in Desperate Housewives, Parks and Recreation, and Don Cheadle's Black Monday.
Tisha Campbell-Martin
Playing the role of Michael's best friend, Suzanne, is Tisha Campbell-Martin. Suzanne is a single mother to one son, who she is very protective over.
She has had television roles in Rags to Riches, My Wife and Kids, Everybody Hates Chris and Dr Ken. Most recently, she has played Brooke in music drama Empire and Carol in Tim Allen's Last Man Standing, while she also lends her voice to Netflix animation Inside Job.
Marcia Gay Harden
In Uncoupled, Marcia Gay Harden plays Clare Lewis, a wealthy woman whose husband recently walked out on her in a similar way to how Colin left Michael.
Harden won an Academy Award in the year 2000 for her portrayal of Lee Krasner in art biopic Pollock and earned a second nomination three years later for her performance in Mystic River. Her other films include Mona Lisa Smile, the Fifty Shades trilogy and Netflix's Moxie.
Emerson Brooks
Playing one of Michael's friends in the series is Emerson Brooks, who stars as Billy Jackson. Billy is a local weather presenter and bachelor by choice, having always avoided getting into a committed relationship. He has a tendency to date men who are considerably younger than him, which is something his friends are quick to make fun of.
Recently, Brooks has appeared in The Lincoln Lawyer as DDA Ben Miller and short-lived music drama Queens as Darren Filgo. His other credits include Arrested Development, The Last Ship and soap opera All My Children.
What is Uncoupled all about?
The official Netflix synopsis reads: "Michael Lawson (Neil Patrick Harris) seems to have it all figured out. He’s a successful New York City real estate agent with a great career, a supportive family, close friends, and a loving relationship with his partner of 17 years, Colin (Tuc Watkins).
