Uncle of missing Scots schoolgirl, 12, begs people to check CCTV one week after disappearance

The uncle of missing Scots schoolgirl Jamie-Lee Harvie has begged people to check their CCTV in an emotional plea marking one week since she vanished.

Jamie-Lee Harvie, 12, was last seen at Ayr train station at around 3.30pm on Tuesday, March 14. It's believed she boarded a train towards Glasgow.

Officers say they are "very concerned" about her welfare. A police conference at Irvine Police Station is due to be held at 2pm today.

Uncle Steven Harvie said her disappearance is causing her family extreme stress as he called for action from members of the public.

He said: "I'm making another post and I will continue to do so until my wee niece is home safe and well.

"Jamie-lee Harvie is only 12-years-old, it’s a week today that she’s been missing for and something isn't adding up. Yes many are aware she has gone missing before but never for this length of time.

"Someone knows something and I’m not going to be told otherwise. The longer it goes on, the longer it's putting extreme amounts of stress on the family."

It is thought Jamie-Lee may have got off the train at Irvine, and she is known to frequent the Irvine, Kilwinning and Saltcoats areas.

Steven continued: "We have been round the whole of Irvine, Kilwinning, Saltcoats, Ayr - we’ve had nothing.

"Countless people have been out looking for her, people that we don’t even know and we appreciate all that people are doing. There’s not enough words or anything I can do that shows how thankful and grateful we all are.

"We've checked CCTV but if anyone with the slightest of information please come forward either to the police or to family.

"You would think with all this being done and how big it’s getting out there information would arise?!"

Police searches are ongoing throughout Ayrshire and also in Glasgow city centre, as the schoolgirl has previously travelled to the Union Street area.

Inspector Alex Beagrie of Irvine Police Station said: "Although Jamie-Lee has been reported missing before, she has never been away for this length of time. She is only 12 years of age and she has not been seen since Tuesday.

"We are very concerned. Searches and enquiries are ongoing to trace her as soon as possible to ensure that she is safe and well.

"If you have seen Jamie-Lee since Tuesday morning or if you have any information regarding her whereabouts, we urge you to contact us as soon as possible through 101 quoting incident number 2277 of March 14, 2023."
