Uncapped pair named in Ireland squad as World Cup preparations kick off

Vera Pauw has called up 16-year-old goalkeeper Katie Keane for next week’s training camp in Spain.

The Shelbourne netminder has earned the call, along with Peamount United midfielder Erin McLaughlin, thanks to her form in recent home-based training sessions.

Pauw has named a 26-strong squad for the eight-day camp in Marbella, which will include a friendly on Monday November 14 against Morocco.

The trip will mark the beginning of Ireland’s World Cup preparations - and the first time that the squad has met up since their historic play-off win over Scotland last month.

Further international camps will follow in February, April and June next year, ahead of the World Cup, which kicks off on July 20.

Injuries rule out Savannah McCarthy, Megan Connolly, Ruesha Littlejohn, Ellen Molloy, Jess Ziu, Aoife Colvill and Leanne Kiernan, while Heather Payne is unavailable.

Glasgow City attacker Emily Whelan returns to the squad along with Wexford Youths midfielder Aoibheann Clancy and Shelbourne defender Jessie Stapleton.

The squad will link up in Marbella next Monday.
