UNC Football Coach Mack Brown Agrees to Contract Extension

North Carolina announced a one-year contract extension for football coach Mack Brown on Wednesday.

Brown’s contract now is in place for five more seasons, running through 2028. The legendary coach has been with the program since the start of the 2019 season. Before that, he coached UNC from 1988–97.

Before returning to UNC, Brown was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018. He’s the only active coach in the country who is a member of the Hall of Fame.

“We’ve had a very successful four years across the board and we’re continuing to strive to win all the games, have as much fun as possible, and mentor young men who graduate and are better prepared for life after football,” Brown said, via UNC’s press release. “We’ve accomplished a lot and we still have so much room for improvement, so we’re looking forward to attacking this offseason and getting ready to go for the 2023 season.”

The Tar Heels finished the 2022 season on top of the ACC standings with a 9–5, 6–2 record. The team made its fourth consecutive bowl appearance last season, ultimately losing 28–27 to Oregon in the Holiday Bowl this past season.
