Unbeaten Russian heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov is set to make his U.S. debut on July 1st, when he faces Raphael Akpejiori in a semifinal bout at Top Rank’s Heavyweight Gala in Toledo, Ohio.

Makhmudov, who is 16-0 with 15 knockouts, is ranked #5 by the WBC and WBA. He is considered one of the most promising young heavyweights in the world, and a win over Akpejiori could put him in line for a title shot.

“I’m excited to be fighting in the U.S.,” Makhmudov told Zenger News. “I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. I know the American fans are passionate about boxing, and I’m looking forward to putting on a show for them.”

Makhmudov is a powerful puncher with a solid amateur pedigree. He won the European student championship in 2013, and he represented Russia at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Akpejiori is also undefeated, with a record of 15-0 with 14 knockouts. He is a tall and rangy fighter with good footwork and a jab.

“Akpejiori is a tough opponent,” Makhmudov said. “He’s tall and he can move. But I’m confident that I can beat him. I’m ready for anything he brings.”

A win over Akpejiori would be a major step forward for Makhmudov’s career. It would put him in the spotlight and give him a chance to make a statement to the rest of the heavyweight division.

“I want to be a world champion,” Makhmudov said. “I know I have the talent to do it. I just need to keep working hard and stay focused.”

Makhmudov is a rising star in the heavyweight division. He has the power, the skill, and the determination to be a world champion. If he can get past Akpejiori, he will be one step closer to achieving his dream.
