Beth Lumsden's second-half equaliser saw Southampton hold Bristol City to their first draw of the Barclays Women's Championship season. Lauren Smith's team conceded their first goal in four outings but held onto a point as Ffion Morgan struck for Bristol.
The hosts started strongly at Ashton Gate with five shots in the first 15 minutes, but Southampton were able to keep it under control.
Abi Harrison continuously pressed and made a calculated cross with her right foot which found Shania Hayles in the box, but the forward couldn't connect, narrowly missing out on the first of the game.
The hosts finally found their way around the Saints defence in the 29th minute as Harrison slipped the ball to Morgan who placed a right-footed finish into the top corner to make it 1-0.
It was nearly another just minutes later when Morgan returned the assist to Harrison but a brilliant save from Kayla Rendall kept the visitors trailing by just one before the break.
Saints came back with a newfound fury as Lumsden's strike just two minutes into the second half found the equaliser and her debut goal for Southampton.
The Robins had a chance to pull ahead again before 70 minutes as Palmer spotted Rendall off her line and made a bee line for the goal at 35 yards out, but the Saints keeper did well to get back and tip it onto the crossbar.
Lumsden eyed up a second in the 81st minute as she forced Fran Bentley to make a save but the visitors were ultimately denied.
