A homely cafe in the Old Town has made it into a worldwide list of top restaurants according to TripAdvisor, winning a Traveller’s Choice Award.
Quinn’s, on West Port, discovered the news this week, posting on their Facebook page: “Wow, can’t believe it, Quinn’s has been voted in the top 10% in the world. Thank you to all of our customers. Pop in if you are in the area.”

TripAdvisor described the award as: “Recognising businesses that consistently deliver great service. You’re part of an exclusive group, ranking among the top 10% of listings on TripAdvisor.”
Owner Mike Quinn spoke to Edinburgh Live after winning the award, telling us: “I was ecstatic.
“We had made it to the top spot for breakfast in Edinburgh earlier this year, but had dipped back down to number two. All of a sudden we’re back at number one and we’re in the top 10% of restaurants worldwide.”
Since opening on August 27, 2020, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing for Mike - but he’s managed to keep the business afloat during a global pandemic and cost of living crisis. Not only is the cafe still going, but it’s proved massively popular with locals and tourists alike.
Mike continued: “Ever since we opened people have seemed to enjoy us. I think because I’m quite hands on, and I’m always making sure things are up to standard we get a good pretty good response.
“As for making it into the top 10% on TripAdvisor, I still don’t really understand. There’s Michelin star restaurants in Edinburgh that aren’t on it.
“I think it's the way we make people feel, we have a welcoming and homely atmosphere and I think people leave satisfied. It’s a traditional breakfast and sometimes that's what people want.
Earlier this year, Edinburgh Live went over to Quinn’s to sample the breakfast - after it became the top in the city according to TripAdvisor. Mike said that even after that, he felt the pressure of customers coming and telling him they’d read the article.
He said: “When Edinburgh Live reported on us in February, people were coming in and saying they’d read it and even that was pressure.
“I always want every breakfast to be up to standard, and I’m very hands on so yeah - it can be a lot of pressure. People will likely hear about the TripAdvisor award and come in, which is great, but a wee bit scary.”
We’re sure Mike has nothing to worry about, and if you’re considering heading down to Quinn’s we’d recommend getting in there early - as news of their ranking will spread quickly.
