Paul Pogba has been urged to leave Manchester United to get away from the criticism fired at him by fans and the English media.
The France midfielder returned to training on Monday having been sidelined for nearly three months with a hamstring injury.
His time at Old Trafford hasn’t been the smoothest with some within the football community questioning his performances on the pitch compared to his off the field lifestyle.
Pogba has won two League Cups and a Europa League with United since his £95m move from Juventus in August 2016.
But he has failed to win over a section of supporters and media, something which has prompted ex-Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor to encourage him to leave the club.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “I don’t blame Paul Pogba (for wanting to leave).
“Paul Pogba is always unappreciated by a lot of Man United fans.
“Whenever he has a half-bad game, it’s Paul Pogba getting hammered, no-one else on the pitch gets any hammering off pundits or United fans.
“Now Pogba’s been injured for a couple of months, you can’t blame Pogba for Manchester United’s form.”
Agbonlahor then added that an Old Trafford exit would be beneficial to both Pogba and United.
He added: “If I’m Paul Pogba, go and get your last four or five year contract at Real Madrid and - of course - get out of Manchester United. I don’t blame him at all.
“You might as well get the best out of him for the next four months - if he goes, he goes.
“There’s other players that will probably leave Manchester United as well. I think it is best for both the player and the club.”
Former England international Agbonlahor went on to slam the media’s treatment of Pogba, claiming that it has double standards.
“If you look at the media since he’s been here, Pogba could walk out of his house with a pair of Louis Vuitton trainers on and he’d be hammered for it - when other players could do ten times more flashy things and there’s not a word said,” he continued.
“So if I’m Pogba, I want to get away from the English media.
“I want to go to Real Madrid or another country and play my football where the media aren’t as harsh on him.
“Play the next four months and off you go and leave England.”
Pogba could feature in the United squad that travels to Brentford on Wednesday evening, where he may enjoy his first minutes of action since the 5-0 defeat to Liverpool on October 24.
