Unai Emery fires brutal Tottenham dig that Arsenal fans will love amid Champions League verdict

Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery could not resist launching a brutal dig at Tottenham Hotspur for their lack of trophies when asked for his verdict on the Gunners’ season so far. Both north London rivals are currently embroiled in a competitive battle for the Champions League places this season.

It is Spurs who currently sit in a better position having claimed fourth spot for the first time under Antonio Conte at the weekend following Arsenal’s embarrassment at the hands of Crystal Palace. The Gunners though still have a game in hand and could well return to Europe’s top table for the first time since 2017 should things go their way between now and the end of the season.

One man who is already in the competition is ex-Gunners’ boss Emery, who has managed to lead Spanish outfit to the quarter-finals this season having lifted the Europa League title against Manchester United last term. He has hailed the job that current boss Mikel Arteta is doing at the Emirates Stadium but pointed out that there has been some stark differences between his compatriot’s and his own stints in charge in north London.

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic, he said: "They have put together a group who are all going in the same direction, working together, showing respect. I knew that whoever began after Wenger, it was difficult for people to understand the changes that had to be made.

"Arteta is doing a good job, continuing what I began. He has had that patience from the fans, the patience they did not have with me. But I understand that."

Whilst Emery has given his verdict on how his former club are performing, the Spaniard also gave his say on Tottenham Hotspur ’s recent seasons and launched a pretty blatant jibe at the Gunners’ great rivals.

He continued: "Tottenham is also a very big club, but here they [in Spain] could win things.

"Tottenham has been years without winning anything, no trophies. There are other very good teams in England who do not win things either. It is not easy to win."
