UN Voices Alarm Over Dire Humanitarian Situation In Gaza

Stéphane Dujarric the Spokesman for the United Nations

United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric expressed deep concern on Wednesday regarding the critical humanitarian situation unfolding in Gaza. Dujarric highlighted the alarming fact that essential goods for humanitarian operations have not been able to enter Gaza through key crossings, further complicating the already challenging circumstances amidst ongoing hostilities.

The urgent need for incoming supplies, particularly fuel, to support ongoing humanitarian efforts was underscored by Dujarric. He emphasized that the situation is dire, with vital medical facilities facing the risk of becoming either inaccessible or inoperable.

The recent evacuation of Al Najjar hospital serves as a stark reminder of the gravity of the situation, especially for patients who rely on its dialysis department, according to the UN spokesperson.

Highlighting the evacuation of Al Najjar hospital, Dujarric noted, 'One of the three hospitals in Rafah – Al Najjar – had to be abruptly vacated yesterday, as it was located in the area subject to the evacuation orders issued by the Israeli Defense Forces.'

The United Nations reiterated its unwavering commitment to providing aid to the population of Gaza, including the more than one million individuals seeking shelter in Rafah.

Martin Griffiths, the head of the humanitarian affairs office, stressed the critical importance of safeguarding civilians and ensuring that their basic needs are met, whether they choose to remain in place or evacuate. Griffiths emphasized the urgent necessity of taking immediate action to protect lives in Gaza amidst the escalating tensions.
