UN Report: Over 10,000 Women Killed In Gaza Conflict

Ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, in Gaza City

Since the beginning of Israel's war with Hamas in October, more than 10,000 women have tragically lost their lives in Gaza, as estimated by UN Women in a recent report. The report highlights the devastating impact of the conflict, revealing that among the casualties are approximately 6,000 mothers, leaving behind 19,000 children orphaned.

The situation in Gaza is dire, with over 1 million Palestinian women and girls facing severe hunger. Access to basic necessities such as food, safe drinking water, toilets, and running water is extremely limited, posing life-threatening risks to the population.

The report also sheds light on the alarming rate of injuries and fatalities among children, stating that one child is either injured or killed every 10 minutes in the region.

Survivors of the bombings in Gaza are enduring immense suffering, including starvation, illness, and constant fear. The conflict has disproportionately impacted women, who are bearing the brunt of a war they did not choose to be a part of.

UN Women's Regional Director in the Arab States, Susanne Mikhail, emphasized the devastating toll the war has taken on women in Gaza, describing it as a targeted assault on their lives and well-being. Despite efforts by the IDF to minimize harm to civilians, the situation on the ground remains dire for women and children in Gaza.
