The UN agency for Palestinian refugees announced that they have 4,000 aid trucks prepared to enter Gaza following the ceasefire that went into effect on Sunday. Approximately half of these trucks are loaded with essential supplies such as food and flour, as stated by UNRWA. The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator emphasized the urgency of the situation, stressing the need to act swiftly to provide assistance to those in need.
Tom Fletcher, the UN official, expressed readiness to facilitate the movement of aid convoys into Gaza promptly, ensuring the delivery of life-saving provisions like food and medicine to survivors. The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas finally commenced on Sunday after a brief delay, aiming to increase the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza to 600 trucks per day.
This significant rise in aid delivery is a crucial step towards addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region. Despite this progress, a UN humanitarian official cautioned that this increase in aid is just the beginning and more efforts will be required to fully alleviate the dire situation in Gaza.
