Ulster v Ospreys to hold minute's silence as nine killed in explosion that's rocked Ireland

A minute's silence will be held at Ulster v Ospreys on Saturday night in tribute to the victims of a fatal explosion at a petrol station in County Donegal.

Nine people are now confirmed to have died after the huge explosion at an Applegreen service station in the village of Creeslough on Friday afternoon, which destroyed the building and a secton of an apartment building.

Gardaí (Irish police) said three fatalities were confirmed on Friday, the others on Saturday morning. Eight people were also taken to hospital after the blast, and the search operation has now become a recovery mission.

Ulster host the Ospreys at Kingspan Stadium on Saturday evening (7.35pm kick-off) in the United Rugby Championship.

Ulster said on Twitter: "The thoughts of everyone at Ulster Rugby and the wider rugby family are with the community of Creeslough in Co Donegal as they continue to deal with the tragic events of yesterday [Friday]. A moment's silence will take place at this evening's match against Ospreys as a mark of condolence."

Irish Rugby added: "We share in the shock and sorrow at the tragedy in Creeslough. Our thoughts and prayers are with the community."

The Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Micheál Martin said this was an "unspeakable tragedy".

"The entire nation is shocked at what has happened," he said.
