An oil depot in Russia's southwestern Rostov region was engulfed in flames on Saturday after a drone attack carried out by Ukrainian forces. This incident marks the latest in a series of long-range strikes by Kyiv on Russian territory, with the aim of disrupting the Kremlin's military operations.
Rostov regional Governor Vasily Golubev confirmed that the drone attack caused a fire covering an area of 200 square meters (2,100 square feet). Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, and the fire was successfully extinguished after several hours.
Additionally, Russian air defense systems intercepted two drones over the Kursk and Belgorod regions, while Ukraine's air defenses managed to intercept four out of five drones launched by Russia. The fifth drone reportedly exited Ukrainian airspace towards Belarus.
In separate incidents, Ukrainian officials reported casualties resulting from Russian attacks. The governor of the Donetsk region stated that six individuals were killed and 22 others were wounded, while the governor of the Kherson region reported one fatality and six injuries due to Russian shelling.
The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has escalated in recent months, with Ukraine intensifying its aerial assaults on Russian targets in an effort to impede Moscow's military advances. The Russian army continues to exert pressure along the front line in eastern Ukraine, where Ukrainian defenders face challenges posed by shortages of troops and ammunition.
