Ukraine recharged for Scotland revenge mission as flagging star reveals break after Armenia annihilation

Ukraine star Oleksandr Tymchyk reckons their boss has played a blinder by changing an entire team before they meet Scotland because they are all rested and desperate for revenge. Scotland travel to Poland knowing they must avoid defeat against the war-torn country to win their Nations League group and seal promotion.

Ukraine boss Oleksandr Petrakov opted to make 11 changes from their 3-0 hammering in Glasgow last week and it paid off as they romped to a 5-0 win in Armenia. And Dynamo Kyiv defender Tymchyk believes that could prove to be an inspired call by the veteran manager.

He said: "To be honest, the manager and the coaching staff all told us there would be big chances from the Scotland game because of the long flights, travelling and time differences. It was always going to be very difficult for the guys who played in Scotland to adjust to these games.

"Therefore, in my opinion the manager's decision in playing an entirely new team was totally justified. Even then, against Armenia I was tired and had cramp at the end so it would have been even worse if he had played those who were on the pitch against Scotland. Scotland is a huge game for us. We need to gain revenge for the defeat in Glasgow and win the group."

And Bordeaux midfielder Danylo Ihnatenko admits they are gunning for a win against Steve Clarke's men. He said: "The game in Scotland was a very painful one for us. Our rehabilitation started with that game in Armenia and I believe we will complete it by beating the Scots.

"We were excellent in the second half against Armenia because honestly, the first half was actually 50/50. But we pointed out our mistakes in the dressing room at half time and I managed to score too in the win. I am extremely motivated for playing Scotland, I want to stay here and get a foothold in the national team, so I will do everything for that to happen.

"We have a very good team, everyone treats each other well, senior partners help young players and give advice. There's a great atmosphere in the squad. I believe we will have the support of the local fans too so that will help us as well."
