An FSB spy has taken over the government of the Moscow-occupied Kherson region in southern Ukraine, Kremlin-installed authorities have said.
Graduate of the FSB academy, Sergei Yeliseyev, 51, “became head of the government in the Kherson region”, head of the Russian occupational administration Vladimir Saldo said. His government reportedly took office on Tuesday.
It comes as the UK’s Ministry of Defence said that Vladimir Putin‘s forces will continue “levelling towns and cities” in Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine.
In an intelligence update, the MoD said that the battle for Donbas was characterised by “slow rates of advance” and involved Russia’s mass “employment of artillery, levelling towns and cities in the process”.
They added that the fighting in the Donetsk Oblast will “almost certainly continue in this manner.”
Mr Putin has ordered the troops involved in Russia’s operation to capture the last major city in the Luhansk region to rest, though other units will continue fighting.
