Ukraine midfielder signs for Longford Town

Ukrainian midfielder Viktor Serdeniuk has joined Longford Town from Premier Division champions Shamrock Rovers.

New Town boss Stephen Henderson has swooped for the former youth international on a one-year deal, following his exit from the Hoops.

Serdeniuk left Ukraine after the Russian invasion in February and signed for Shamrock Rovers on a short-term deal in September.

The 26-year-old - once a Ukraine youth international team-mate of Arsenal ace Oleksandr Zinchenko - made three league appearances and two in Europe.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Matthew Connor is returning to First Division rivals Waterford after a spell with Galway United.

He made his debut for the Blues in 2014 and then had stints with Wexford, Cork City and Galway.

“I didn’t want to leave my hometown club in the past so I can’t wait to get back to work,” said Connor.

“I was here in 2017 when we won the league and it is one of my best memories in football and something I want to achieve again this season.

“The last few seasons have thrown a lot of setbacks my way, but I can’t wait to get the gloves back on and help the club to get back to where we belong.”
