Ukraine Launches Major Drone And Missile Attack On Russian Regions

Aftermath of a Russian missile attack in Cherkasy region

Reports from Russian officials and media indicate that Ukraine launched a significant drone and missile attack on Russian regions overnight. The attack resulted in damage to at least two factories and forced the closure of schools in a major southern Russian city.

The Shot Telegram channel revealed that Russia successfully intercepted over 200 Ukrainian drones and five US-made ATACMS ballistic missiles during the attack. The Two Majors war blogger described the assault as a massive combined strike on Russian territory.

Alexander Bogomaz, the governor of the Bryansk region in western Russia, confirmed a major missile attack by Ukraine but did not specify the type of missiles used. The Russian defense ministry has not yet commented on the incident, and Reuters was unable to verify the reports immediately.

In Engels, a city housing an air base for Russia's nuclear bombers, Saratov Governor Roman Busargin reported damage to an industrial enterprise caused by a drone. As a precaution, schools in Saratov and Engels will conduct classes remotely, and flight restrictions were imposed in several Russian cities.

Nizhnekamsk, located in Tatarstan, home to the Taneco refinery, experienced attack sirens sounding at the facility, according to Shot. However, Reuters could not confirm this report at the time.

Russia recently launched a new intermediate-range hypersonic ballistic missile named 'Oreshnik' at Ukraine on November 21 in response to previous strikes by Ukrainian forces using US and British missiles. President Vladimir Putin warned of escalating tensions and the potential for a global conflict, criticizing the US and Britain for supporting Ukraine's actions.

President-elect Donald Trump has advocated for a ceasefire and negotiations to end the conflict swiftly, raising questions about Washington's ongoing support for Ukraine. The 2022 invasion of Ukraine by Russia has resulted in significant casualties, displacement of millions, and strained relations between Moscow and the West to levels not seen since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.
