Ukraine made a significant move in the ongoing conflict with Russia by launching drone attacks that reached the city of Kazan in the Tatarstan region, over 600 miles away from the front line. The local authorities reported that eight drones were involved in the attack, with six hitting residential buildings, one targeting an industrial facility, and one being shot down over a river.
A video footage verified by The Associated Press showed a drone penetrating the upper floors of a high-rise building in Kazan. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported, but as a precaution, flights were suspended at Kazan's airport, and all mass gatherings were canceled over the weekend.
These attacks, although not officially acknowledged by Ukraine due to security reasons, came after a Ukrainian strike on a town in Russia's Kursk border region resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including a child. In response, Moscow reportedly deployed 113 drones into Ukraine, with Ukrainian Air Force managing to shoot down 57 of them. Another 56 drones were believed to have been jammed electronically.
Further incidents were reported in Ukraine's Kharkiv region, where eight people sustained injuries in drone attacks, and in Zaporizhzhia, where four individuals were wounded due to falling drone debris damaging a residential building. Meanwhile, Russian forces continued their advance in eastern Ukraine, with the Defense Ministry announcing the capture of the village of Kostiantynopolske in Donetsk province, just six miles from the city of Kurakhove, which is under siege.
