Ukraine crisis: 16 trucks of supplies to leave Dublin Port to help war-torn people

Sixteen trucks carrying 150 tonnes of aid for the people of Ukraine will leave Dublin Port tomorrow afternoon.

The supplies are destined for the war-torn country and will help those affected by the Russian invasion.

It will be the largest ever aid convoy to leave Ireland as people across the country group together to support the Ukrainian people.

"Aid from Ireland" is behind tomorrow's ambitious journey with the transport companies of Ireland and Northern Ireland assuring Ukrainian families that help is on its way.

The convoy will leave Dublin Port tomorrow at 12:30pm with Boojum and Flahavan's among the Irish companies that have donated to the cause.

Boojum have donated 600 survival kits with flash lamps and warm clothing with Flahavan's sending 10,000 Kg of porridge.

Hibernian Healthcare have given 6 pallets of first aid and medical supplies with schools across the country also sending on donations.

Tommy Byrne, an Irishman living in Poland is behind the project with people and companies from Malin to Mizen Head helping in anyway they can.

Transport companies have provided the trucks with Irish Ferries providing the free shipping to mainland Europe.

Most of the truck drivers will make the long journey as unpaid volunteers in order to get the supplies to the people that need them the most.

Meanwhile, Dublin pubs have been organising fundraisers and collections for the Ukrainian people.

There are a wide range of events for people eager to help those affected by the Russian invasion.

The Gravediggers in Glasnevin have put a special meal on their menu to honour the Ukrainian people.

All funds raised will go to Red Cross Ukraine.

The traditional dish is called 'borscht' and is on sale for €5 in the pub's lounge.

They posted: "All proceeds to #redcrossukraine our Chef & team have created a traditional #ukraniandish of #borscht... soup for €5

"Available in our Lounge from 12.30 to 8.30pm."
