Ukraine Awaits Expert Conclusions On Missile Type Fired By Russia

North Korea says it test-fired new solid-fuel hypersonic missile

Ukraine announced on Thursday that it is working to determine the specific type of missile that Russia launched at the country, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict that has lasted for over 1,000 days.

The Ukrainian foreign ministry spokesperson, Heorhii Tykhyi, stated that expert conclusions are being awaited to identify the exact nature of the new missile fired by Russia. The missile in question exhibited flight characteristics resembling those of an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).

Earlier, Ukraine's air force accused Russia of targeting the city of Dnipro with an ICBM. However, a Western official, speaking at a summit of Asian nations' defense ministers in Laos, contradicted this claim by stating that the missile launched by Russia was a ballistic missile, but not an ICBM. The discrepancy between the descriptions provided by the Ukrainian military and the Western official has yet to be clarified.

Heorhii Tykhyi emphasized that the missile strike serves as evidence that Russia is not pursuing peace but rather actively working to escalate the conflict. He stated, 'Russia does not seek peace. To the contrary, it makes every effort to expand the war.'

The incident underscores the ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia, with the conflict showing no signs of abating. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely as efforts to de-escalate the conflict remain a top priority.
