Thousands have been left mopping up after Storm Larisa unleashed blizzards, heavy rain and gales.
The Environment Agency posted over 50 flood alerts today, with roads closed in Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.
Temperatures are set to fall to -15C in northern Scotland on Friday night, but forecasters say the heaviest snow is now over.
Travellers still face disruption from ice, frost and heavy rain, with more snow expected in the north.
The Met Office said: “Much of the UK is likely to be under the influence of colder conditions into Tuesday.” Villagers in Hemsby, Norfolk, were yesterday evacuated after storms threatened to sweep their houses into the North Sea.
Work also started to demolish three wooden homes near a cliff edge after high tides washed away nearly 20ft of land.
One resident, Mary Withey, said “I don’t want to move. It’s very sad.”

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:
Rain and strong winds on Monday, clearing southeastwards, followed by colder weather with wintry showers and overnight frosts. Drier on Wednesday, then further rain and hill snow into western parts.
