The UK could see some regions hit by 'wintry showers' with snow predicted as early as tomorrow, according to forecasters.
Conditions are set to be unsettled over the coming days as a band of colder air will sweep across the country.
While many have enjoyed warmer temperatures in recent days after the start of spring it is now forecast to take a sharp cold turn.
Now the Met Office has warned that snowfall is likely in some regions with a frosty outlook in northern areas from Sunday until Tuesday.
It comes as chilly gusts head in from the Arctic Circle. The weather system is set to head northwards, bringing an end to the warm weather.
There is then expected to be a clear split in weather across the UK next week. The north will see dry but colder conditions while the south is set for milder but wetter weather.
Met Office senior press officer Nicola Maxey told the Express: "There is a chance that any shower could fall as snow, particularly at higher grounds in Scotland, or a wintry mix as we go through the southern part of the country next week.
"There will be a sort of northeast/southwest split with the weather, with the colder air in the north while the Atlantic weather system will be trying to push in from the south of the country towards the north."
Meanwhile, data from WXCharts showed 9cm of snow could settle on the ground in more elevated places with May on the horizon.
Those particularly around the Highland regions, and around Aberdeen and Inverness, may see some of the snow.
From Monday, there's a chance of it heading southwards.
The Lake District, North Pennines, and Yorkshire Dales all look set to see some flurries - although what arrives is expected to be nothing as intense as northern Scotland.
Newcastle too could even see some snow, experts predicted.
Netweather also forecasted that it will be a chilly start to next week with the possibility of snow.
A forecast from The Met Office read: "Sunny spells and scattered wintry showers early next week, most frequent in the north and perhaps the east and still with a good deal of dry weather.
"Cloudier conditions along with outbreaks of rain across or near the south and southwest will likely make gradual progress northeastwards across the country during late April but at an uncertain rate."

Cloud and outbreaks of rain continuing to move slowly north into Northern Ireland and southeast Scotland, whilst dry in the far northwest. Slow-moving showers in northern England, isolated showers elsewhere.
