UK weather: More than 100 flood warnings in place across country - see list

UK citizens are set to experience more rain, flooding and cold weather in the upcoming days.

More than 100 flood warnings have been issued by The Environment Agency, typically in the west and south-west England.

There are more than 180 flood alerts now, as terrible weather has damaged hundreds of homes and left several with no power.

Additionally, temperatures are expected to drop on Sunday evening, according to an alert for severe cold weather for England.

It's expected this will continue across much of the UK until Thursday morning, with the added warning that the cold will increase health risks for vulnerable people and mean some services can't function.

Yellow Met Office warnings for rain, wind and ice are in place across parts of northern England, Northern Ireland, and most of Scotland.

By Sunday most of the UK will be in the northerly airflow, with lower temperatures spreading further south overnight.

In the north, showers will fall increasingly as sleet and snow, even to lower levels.

In the South and West, showers overnight and leading into Monday could turn into sleet or snow in places such as Exmoor, Brecon Beacons and Dartmoor.

By Monday night, overnight frost will become more widespread, with temperatures below 0 degrees across most of the UK.

Temperatures could get down to -10°C in some high ground areas of Scotland where there is lying snow.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist at The Met Office, Helen Caughey, said: “After a spell of wet and mild weather to start 2023, a brief cold spell will change the feel of our weather across the UK for a few days next week.

"As a northerly flow establishes, we’ll see temperatures decline with overnight frosts returning and the chance of wintry showers in the north. It will certainly feel cold in all regions too, with the northerly winds creating a notable windchill.”

Specifically, there is a 70 per cent chance of severely cold weather, icy conditions and heavy snow from 18:00 GMT Sunday until 09:00 Thursday.

Meanwhile, Devon has been hit by flooding recently, with roads flooding in Tiverton after the River Exe burst its banks.

Flooding also caused a partial closure on the railway line between Totnes and Plymouth.

Natural Resources Wales has issued dozens of flood alerts around Wales, and seven flood warnings concentrated in the south.

Areas close to rivers like the Wye, Severn and Avon are especially vulnerable to flood warnings, including for groundwater flooding.

The West Midlands has already been hit by floods, with people prepared for high river levels.

Some flood alerts - meaning flooding is possible - are also in place further north, including in Keswick in the Lake District, and areas of Yorkshire.

There are also one flood warning in place in Scotland for Callander and Ayr to Troon, and seven flood alerts across the country.
