UK weather: More hot weather on the way as Brits to bask in sunny highs of 19C

Britain is set for more hot conditions as the country basks in highs of 19C in some places on Wednesday afternoon.

The UK has enjoyed warmer heat as a high pressure front works it way from the southwest, which will come into full force by the end of the week.

In the meantime, it will be a chilly start once again, similarly to Tuesday morning, where the majority of the country will start Wednesday with temperatures struggling to reach double figures due to the lack of cloud cover. There could be pockets of frost in the north east of Scotland.

The cloud cover will build up over the course of the morning with sunshine also breaking through as the mercury continues to rise.

Met Office meteorologist Clare Nasir said: "For much of the country, it's a fine day. Temperatures will reach around 16 to 18 or 19C, a little cooler along this east coast.

"We're not expecting wall-to-wall blue sky and sunshine, but even so, some fine weather."

In the evening, the band of rain which had hovered around the north of Scotland all day will push down towards Aberdeenshire, but the rain will be light and patchy while the breeze will also pick up.

Another weather front from the Atlantic will hit Northern Ireland and western Scotland as we head into Thursday morning.

UK weather forecast

Today:

A dry and bright day, with plenty of sunny spells. There will be the odd shower across central, southern and eastern England. Cloud building through the afternoon across northern Scotland, with some rain developing here. Feeling pleasant in the sunshine.

Tonight:

Showers will fade through this evening with rain in the far north easing too. A cloudier night to come than recently, though there will be clear spells in the southeast.

Thursday:

A fine and dry day with sunny spells for many on Thursday though there may be the odd shower in the south. Rain will arrive across the northwest later.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

A mixture of sunshine and scattered showers, some heavy, on Friday. Further sunny spells Saturday and Sunday, but the risk of some rain across northwest Scotland. Often warm.
