UK weather maps show where rain will ruin the Easter weekend

The Easter weekend is looking wet for much of the UK, with heavy rain expected to hit Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and England. Forecasts from WXCharts suggest the weather will take a turn for the worse on Good Friday, especially in the evening.

By nine o’clock on Friday night, a large band of rain is expected to cover the southwest of England, stretching from Cornwall to Brighton and moving up towards Manchester. While the east coast might avoid the worst of it, central parts of the country are likely to see rain sweeping through areas such as Chester, the Peak District, and Lincolnshire. South Wales is also expected to be soaked, with Cardiff, Swansea, and Pembrokeshire all in the path of the storm. The coastal areas, in particular, are predicted to see the heaviest rainfall.

Scotland will not be escaping either, as rain is set to move up the western side, affecting places like Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. It may also reach as far as Edinburgh. In Northern Ireland, only the central region looks likely to stay dry for a while, while both the east and west are forecast to get drenched, including Belfast and Londonderry.

By Saturday, conditions are expected to ease slightly in parts of Scotland and the north, with drier spells pushing in as the rain moves east. However, things are not looking good for Wales. Almost the whole country is set to be battered by more rain, with showers reaching rates of up to three millimetres per hour.

Much of England may enjoy a break from the downpours, though the western regions will still face some showers. Areas such as Liverpool, the Lake District, and parts of Devon are still in the firing line before the rain moves away completely.

In Northern Ireland, the rain will continue to fall across many areas, from the east of Ballcastle down to Dungannon, with Belfast once again affected. The southwest will also see more rain as it spreads through.

If you were hoping for some spring sunshine this Easter weekend, it might be best to keep the umbrella close. Most parts of the country will need it.
