Brits are set for spells of sunshine and balmy conditions over the next few days with temperatures hitting 22C.
On the other side of the Atlantic a hurricane is battering areas including Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic but it has been fairly quiet in the UK.
It will start to feel warmer throughout the working week and there will be sunny spells but a band of rain will move gradually down the country from the north west.
There could also be gale force winds on Wednesday for the north west of Scotland
BBC weather forecaster Matt Taylor said: "We’ve had rather cool conditions but things getting milder with south westerly winds developing ahead of this weather front it does mean though it is going to take a few days before that warm air really gets in.
"It is going to be a chilly start to Wednesday, 6C across south eastern areas, mist and fog. Mildest towards the north and west, here the breeze, the cloud and outbreaks of rain, Western Isles - rain coming and going all day long.
"Orkney and Shetland, some outbreaks of rain developing as we will see in Caithness and to the west of Northern Ireland it will turn a bit damp later in the day. Isolated showers through Scotland and northern England but most of the UK having a dry day with mist and fog in the south clearing a bit of cloud through eastern England.
"Some sunny spells elsewhere into the afternoon best of which is around the coasts and feeling a bit warmer than recent days, temperatures up a degree or so.
"Winds lightest towards the east and south of the country on Wednesday afternoon, strongest towards the north and the west. And it is the Western Isles we could see gale force winds develop before the day is out."
It will be a similar day on Thursday where temperatures should peak around central and southern England at 21C but by Friday the band of rain will have cross much of the country bringing fresher conditions.
