Brits are being warned of a cold front bringing snow and sub zero temperatures on Friday following a spell of wet and windy weather.
The UK has been recovering from storms Malik and Corrie with gusts of winds reaching 92mph during last weekend and freezing temperatures.
Now the country is set for spell of milder weather but it is too soon to put away the winter gear as by Thursday night another cold front will have swept in bringing more freezing temperatures.
Weather maps from WXCharts show that the mercury could get as low as -3C during the Arctic blast that is likely to run until Sunday.
The lowest temperatures are set to be in Scotland but it could well be below zero as well for parts of northern England.
Maps also indicate that there could be more than 5cm of snow in Scotland and flurries again in northern England.
Then after a week of milder weather there is set to be more freezing temperatures and snow in mid-February.
Met Office forecaster Clare Nasir, though, said Wednesday and Thursday this week will be mild due to a warm front that is “trapping” the cold air.
She said: “A relatively mild start to the day on Wednesday morning. So through Wednesday morning let’s pick up on the cloud and outbreaks of rain for Northern Ireland, northern and eastern England, southern Scotland.
"Eventually this warm front will move up towards western Scotland but for the morning some brighter weather, some dry conditions.
"Eastern Scotland not feeling so bad here and certainly the sun will come out further south and south west away from western facing coasts where you could see more in the way of clouds. Dry skies to end the day.”
It is due to be a rainy start for Thursday.
"We could see some patchy rain and drizzle but notice this cold front marching its way towards the UK," said Ms Nasir.
"So through Thursday afternoon and evening time a couple of hours of heavy rain and stronger winds as it sinks down towards the south east.
"As the air turns colder the winds pick up and we will see some wintry showers particularly towards the north as well as the west."
