UK weather forecast: Exact day snow to fall this week in -3C Arctic blast

Brits are being warned to brace for more gales after 90mph gusts have ripped through parts of the country - before snow is predicted and freezing temperatures later in the week.

More than 45,000 homes were without electricity following back-to-back storms which hit the UK over the weekend and cost three people their lives.

Storm Corrie brought winds of 92mph to Stornoway in the Western Isles of Scotland late on Sunday.

It came after Storm Malik blew down trees, damaged power lines and ripped roofs off homes in the north of England and Scotland on Saturday.

Now more stormy weather is predicted with a Met Office yellow warning in place for the north and east of Scotland.

It states: “Strong winds on Tuesday may lead to some disruption.”

Adding people can expect: “Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.

“Probably some bus and train services affected with some journeys taking longer. It’s possible that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.”

Met Office Alex Deakin said that it is set to be cloudy and wet day with the strong winds on Tuesday but temperatures are expected to be mild.

A car was crushed by fallen bricks in Seaton Sluice, Northumberland, after strong winds from Storm Malik (PA)

He said: "A grey day for England and Wales with outbreaks of rain across the North West some brighter skies across Scotland, some sunshine coming through.

"It is going to be windy across the North East, gusts of 50mph over the mainland maybe a little bit more than that across the far North East and of course after those recent storms there is the potential for further disruption so we do have a yellow warning in place across the north east of Scotland.”

Temperatures are expected to remain relatively mild through the middle of the week before an Arctic plunge caused by a cold front sweeping in bringing snow on Friday for Scotland and temperatures as low as -3C over the weekend.

Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze told the Express : "Pulses of polar maritime air from the northwest could bring brief colder interludes, with showers turning wintry in the north and over the Welsh mountains."

Mr Deaking added: " This cold front looks like being pretty active and it will swing across the country later Thursday, overnight into Friday bringing a band of heavy rain as it does and then look at that sweeping away the mild air and bringing something a little colder on Friday."

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Today:

Cloudy and mild for most parts with some patchy light rain and drizzle. Brighter weather moving south across Scotland, northern and eastern England, whilst wintry showers affect the far northeast. Windy, with severe gales for northeast Scotland.

Tonight:

Wednesday:

Cloudy for many with some patchy light rain and drizzle moving eastwards, then some heavier rain in the far northwest later. Brighter across the south. Mild and breezy.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:
