The sunny weather isn't over for many Brits who are set to enjoy an Indian summer before the weekend.
Temperatures are expected to rise back up to summer levels in some parts of the country but conditions will remain wet for many, forecasters say.
London and the south east could see the mercury climb above 20C on Thursday and Friday, according to BBC Weather.
It means many in the south of England will enjoy considerably warmer weather than usual for autumn as the nights draw in.
The warmer weather is already starting to creep back into London, with highs of 19C expected by 1pm today.
But the Indian summer will be in full swing by Thursday afternoon, following a mild and dry night.
Temperatures are expected to reach a balmy 20C by 2pm, with light patches of cloud and a slight breeze.
The warmer weather is forecast to stay throughout the weekend, cooling down to a maximum 17C by Monday.
Nearby areas including Oxford, Reading and Chelmsford will see highs of between 18C and 19C on Thursday afternoon.
Manchester and Cardiff will also see numbers in the high teens before the weekend, though this will come with a rainy front that will likely last until the weekend.
Netweather forecaster Jo Farrow says the mixed conditions are due to low pressure fronts in the mid Atlantic.
"The south to south-westerly flow will continue to feed warm air over the UK and with some sunshine. It will feel pleasant and not really like late October," she said.
"There will be bands of rain and heavy showers working their way northwards linked to various low pressures which will sit out in the Atlantic and make our weather changeable."
Several flood alerts are in place throughout the UK on Wednesday morning after heavy rainfall in recent days.
This week could play host to the wettest day of the year so far, according to leading bookmaker Ladbrokes.
With more wind and rain on the way, the bookies now make it just a 3-1 shot for the wettest day of 2022 coming over the next few days.
Spokesperson Alex Apati said: "We could soon be set for record-breaking rain for the year, if the latest odds are anything to go by. It is going to be a wet end to the month."
Meanwhile Coral bookmakers made it odds-on at 4-5 for this month to end as the wettest October on record, after thunderstorms were forecast to fall over the next few days.
