UK weather forecast: Double digit temperatures before brutal -10C Arctic plunge

Unsettled weather is expected across the UK, as temperatures are set to rise to double digits mid-week, before plunging down to -10C in the run-up to April.

The start of the week has experienced chillier temperatures, however the mercury is set to rise over the coming days, with Thursday due to experience the warmest weather according to the Met Office.

Meteorologist Rachel Ayers has said that the UK is set to see "continued bands of showers or rain" throughout the rest of the week, yet temperatures will start to become warmer by Wednesday, reaching up to 15C on Thursday.

While many parts of the country will experience heavy rain and strong winds, conditions will become more settled in some parts as the week progresses. Dry weather is expected over the weekend in the north and the east, while the west and southwest are expected to see continuing wintry weather.

Meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: “Dry conditions on Tuesday. On Wednesday, it is likely to change again with low pressure pushing in from the west and the initial band of rain will likely fall as snow in places, mainly northern hills, before it turns back to rain.

“It will be an unsettled end to next week but with temperatures recovering.”

Despite expected downpours, some dry spells are forecasted (PA)

Forecasters have said that while temperatures will become milder during mid-week, the mercury is thought to plunge as -10C Arctic gusts will bring wintry downpours to parts of the UK.

The jet stream will bring bouts of rain from the Atlantic, with widespread wet and windy weather expected across the UK, with Scotland to expect settling snow over the final days of March and the first week of April.
