UK weather forecast: Cloudy and blustery with balmy 19C highs across the country

Brits are set for cloudy and blustery weather over the coming day with very warm temperatures for the time of year - possibly reaching 19C in northern England and Scotland.

After a largely dry autumn in the south, heavy rain recently has helped the shortages with it being the wettest start to November on record.

A high pressure system is taking hold over Europe which is bringing warm air north from Africa that is bringing the high temperatures for the time of year.

It will remain warm over the coming days and see highs of 18C or 19C in northern England and as far up as Aberdeen in Scotland on Friday.

Particularly unusual will be the warm nights with the mercury barely dropping, said BBC weather forecaster Louise Lear.

“Many areas across the country are desperate for rain including the south east of England, that has been addressed a little over the last few days, it has been the wettest start to November on record in the south east, some areas have seen a month’s worth of rain in just the space of a few days," she said.

"However mist and fog are set to be a problem across south east England over the next few days, the rain stays into the far north west, elsewhere it is going to be largely dry and it is going to be mild for all of us.”

It will be a mild start to Thursday with some drizzle but the high pressure means that it will be mainly dry.

Ms Lear continued: "Cloudy with some light drizzle first thing, a misty, murky start for all.

"The rain quite heavy and persistent to the north of the Great Glen, the wind a feature for the Highlands and islands, and across the Irish Sea we are likely to see gale force gusts here, blustery elsewhere, but mild with it so bit of a peculiar afternoon.

"It is going to lead into a very mild night indeed, Thursday into the early hours of Friday, we are likely to be greeted with temperatures not falling very far at all, 15C or 16C.

"Look how much cloud we have though for many first thing, that should tend to break up across central and eastern England in the afternoon, the rain stays to the north west but the talking point on Friday will be the temperatures as high as 18C or 19C."
