Sun-loving Brits will be thrilled to learn temperatures across the UK will soar above average next month as a mini heatwave hits the country.
The mercury will rise close to 30C as weather maps show a hot air mass pushing across the English Channel at the start of June.
The Met Office ’s long range forecast says the high pressure will “dominate” in the early part of the month, although it may later be frontal systems bringing rain.
Conditions are set to change from next Thursday, June 1, according to maps.
The Met Office reported: “Predominantly fine and settled conditions for many areas to start, though probably feeling rather cool in parts of the north and east, especially in areas with a breeze off the sea.
“High pressure will continue to dominate the weather into early June, meaning plenty more dry weather for much of the country.
“A possibility of weak frontal systems bringing some patchy rain to the far north and, with time, an increased chance of showers, perhaps thundery, moving north into, or developing over southern areas.
“Overall, temperatures remaining above average, though cooler in some coastal locations where onshore breezes develop.
“Winds will generally be light, but coastal areas in the south, as well as far north, may experience stronger winds at times.”
Its long range forecast from June 8 to 22 added: “Through this period there is an increasing likelihood that unsettled conditions will slowly begin to extend northward across the UK from the south, with some heavy, thundery showers and longer spells of rain possible.
“The northwest of the UK is likely to experience the driest conditions. Winds are expected to be light, but with stronger sea breezes in some coastal areas at times. “Temperatures are most likely to be above average overall, though eastern coastal areas may feel cooler, with a greater chance of onshore winds here.”
The settled conditions are expected to continue with highs of 24C now predicted for the West Midlands and southeast Wales on Saturday or Sunday.
It would mean the hottest day of the year could fall perfectly in line with Bank Holiday weekend - with thousands heading for a long weekend trip away or a day at the beach.
British Weather Services' senior meteorological consultant Jim Dale told the Mirror we'll need plenty of sunscreen in the days ahead.
"Definitely no records will be broken, but it'll be very warm toward the month's end and potentially nudging the 30C mark in the London area by June 5 or 6," he said.
"Before then, it could well be western Scotland that hogs the peaks of around 25C.
“There is a likely upper air drag out of North Africa around month’s end and we could well be in receipt of an ‘African Air-dryer’."
