UK weather forecast: Exact date temperature set to plummet - but 20C sunshine is on way

With the long Jubilee Weekend around the corner many are hoping for good weather but the Met Office have put a dampener on it by warning of uncertainty.

Thursday June 2 and Friday June 4 have been designated official bank holidays meaning we'll get a glorious four consecutive days off.

Although some forecasters are predicting the warmest weekend of the year so far, the Met Office are less optimistic.

Although the Jubilee week will start off unsettled with temperatures plunging to around 14C on Sunday May 29 and showers across the country, a plume of warm air is expected to make its way up from the continent by Thursday.

The plume will bring warmer weather with it but also an increased chance of rain.

By the weekend itself the best of any sunshine will be in the south and the west of the England.

The Met Office emphasised the difficulty in making predictions this far ahead and have said this forecast could change as we get closer to the forecast period.

Other forecasters are optimist though with Netweather predicting the temperature will hit 22C on Thursday - the first day of the four day Bank Holiday weekend.

British Weather Services senior meteorologist Jim Dale said: "On the run into that weekend, we might see something that's a little bit warmer - maybe even very warm." It comes amid reports the Platinum Jubilee weekend will be the hottest of the year.

"So basically sunny, dry in the main universally and also very warm, increasingly so as you go through the course of the weekend," said Mr Dale. "And I don't just mean London that's going to be 27C - it might also be Edinburgh," he added.

"So this could be the warmest weekend universally of the year to date. That's what it's looking like, with the caveat that we're still some distance away," he continued. He said: “I think as we approach that weekend it might well ramp up."

A spokesperson for the Met Office cautioned uncertainty but described the phenomenon that's bringing the heat.

They said: We're talking quite a long way away in terms of forecasting so there's significant uncertainty in looking this far ahead.

"It's going to be an unsettled start with showers on a wide area on Monday with cool temperatures but highs of mid teens.

"As we move through the week there are signals for better temperatures, more than averge for this time of year.

"By Thursday there's a plume of warm area that is looking to rise up from the continent and spreading north over the UK. BUt that plume does bring the chance of rain as it moves north."

Sunseekers living in the South of the country are in luck with the spokesperson saying: As we move into the weekend the best of any sunshine is likely to hit the South and the West but that's open to changes as we move closer to the forecast period."
