UK weather: Ex-hurricane to bring 25C tropical warmth

Temperatures could hit 25C on Monday with some sunny spells across part of the UK, thanks to ex-hurricane Danielle bringing some tropical warmth. But cooler nights aren't far away as autumn gets into its stride, the Met Office has said.

The Met Office is forecasting a breezy start to the week which is coming around post-tropical storm. Meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: “So, for the start of next week it looks quite warm, especially in the east if we get bright spells."

“If we get a bit of sunshine in the south and the southeast temperatures will get up into the low- to mid-20Cs.” The remains of a second ex-hurricane, Earl, will creep towards the UK after Danielle, but rather than unleashing another deluge, it will help build settling high pressure, the Express reported.

A yellow weather warning for rain is also in place for parts of north Wales and the North West of England, which runs until 11am on Monday, with a warning of some disruption. But the mercury could hit 25C in London today

Jim Dale, meteorologist for British Weather Services, said: “Both hurricanes are going to end up as a bit of a damp squib in the Atlantic, with neither really making it to the UK."

“Danielle will push southwards at the start of the week, while Earl will die out over the Atlantic and will instead encourage a region of high pressure to build which could encroach into the UK."

“What this means is that after a warm start to the week, with temperatures pushed up by air pulled in from the south, it will then turn cooler and drier, and largely settled.”

“These will clear to showers on Monday and eventually end up in the south on Tuesday."

Met Office UK forecast

Today: Rain across north Wales and northern England, heavy bursts in places. Brighter further north but breezy with some heavy showers too in far north. Further south, fairly cloudy but noticeably warm and humid with the chance of an isolated shower.

Tonight: Rain clearing eastern England during the evening. Odd light showers still possible further south but many areas dry and very mild. Cooler, with some clear spells further north, isolated showers.

Tuesday: Mainly dry with some pleasant sunshine. Cloudier but still warm across parts of southern England, perhaps with odd showers, ahead of more possible heavy rain in the far south later.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Humid with heavy rain near the south coast at first on Wednesday. Drier, brighter, cooler conditions elsewhere spreading south, although some showers in the north and near the east coast
