Brits are set to bake in a Platinum Jubilee heatwave as forecasters predict a royal scorcher ahead of the bank holiday weekend in June.
As the nation celebrates the Queen 's special weekend, and the pubs stay open later, the weather is set to be glorious as people head to parks and beaches to make the most of the warm temperatures.
Yesterday, Monday (May 17) was declared the hottest day of 2022 so far, with the temperatures soaring to 27.5C.
The temperature, recorded at Heathrow Airport, meant it was also warmer than Majorca, where temperatures only peaked at 23C during the day.
And thankfully the hot weather will not just stop there, with forecasters believing another wave of sunshine will arrive in time for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations from June 2 to June 5.
According to Sky News weather producer, Kirsty McCabe, the sunshine is likely to stay for the Jubilee weekend.
She said: "At the moment it looks as though the weather will turn drier and increasingly settled as we head towards the end of May with high pressure becoming the dominant feature into the first week of June.
"That means we can expect largely dry, settled and warm conditions with a royally good amount of sunshine for the Jubilee weekend."
And John Hammond, of weathertrending, believes the warm weather Brits could experience in the Jubilee weekend is thanks to warm weather drifting in from southern Europe.
He said: “It’s warmth with a bang as a plume of warm air drifts up from southern Europe.
“Warmer weather is likely as we start June, with plenty of dryness in the early part of the month for Platinum Jubilee celebrations.”
With all the glorious sunshine set to come, high street bookmakers have now slashed odds that will see May break the record for the warmest the UK has ever had with it odds-on at 4-5.
Harry Aitkenhead from Coral said: “Spring is ending in a blaze of glory as temperatures continue to rise, so much so that this May is now odds on in our books to break the record for the warmest we have ever had in the United Kingdom”.
