Exact dates of balmy 24C sunshine blitz forecast in build up to the royal Coronation

A scorching Coronation is on the way with temperatures expected to ramp up in the coming days.

Brits have so far seen a bitterly cold start to spring with just occasional bouts of sunny spells.

But in weeks the country will bask in warmer temperatures before peaking at highs of up to 24C in time for the royal Coronation weekend.

According to long range forecasts there will be a short 'hot spell' in the latter half of the month, coming after a long period of wintery weather across the country.

It will come as welcome news to those planning on camping out on the streets of London or marking the historic occasion with friends at street parties all over the UK.

Jim Dale, senior meteorologist for British Weather Services, told the Express that while he could not pinpoint exact conditions for the day, that the lead-up to it would see the mercury rise.

He said: "I can’t be specific for the day itself but the run up looks sun-filled and notably warmer.

"Following what will be a distinctly cool and changeable five to six days to come. However, there's a 65 percent chance of being very warm and sunny at this point."

WXCHARTS' weather maps have also shown the possibility of warmer European air moving up to the south east of England.

Temperatures are forecast to peak at 23C in counties such as Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk on May 3.

In central London, there will be similarly balmy weather with predictions of 22C expected to last until May 4.

According to the Met Office, from Friday, May 5 to Friday, May 19, the country can expect "fairly typical conditions for the time of year."

Its outlook for this period reads: "Fairly typical conditions for the time of year expected, with a mixture of settled and unsettled spells.

"Most frequent rain more likely in the south at first, but tending to focus on the more typical west and northwest with time.

"Lower than usual likelihood of significant windy spells, especially at first. Above average temperatures probable overall through to mid-May."
