A 20-year-old British woman was arrested after a flare-up at the holiday island airport when a police officer was allegedly bitten. It has been reported by local media the passenger had been drinking heavily before arriving at Palma de Majorca airport and had become agitated when being forced to queue at passport control.
According to reports, she started shouting and threatening other passengers waiting to have their passports stamped by National Police officers. Despite being requested to moderate her behaviour, she allegedly bit an officer and started to lash out at others when she was restrained.
Following the confrontation, she was taken by ambulance to a hospital for assessment. The Daily Bulletin news site reported the woman had been undergoing psychological treatment in the UK and her behaviour was sparked by a lack of medication and excess alcohol.
British tourists arriving in Palma at the weekend spoke of chaotic scenes with lengthy delays for taxis, long queues at passport control for arrivals and departures and delays for flights leaving the island.
A passenger jetting home to Doncaster-Sheffield Airport with easyJet after a trip to Majorca also claimed she had been left without luggage. Christine Shrubb, told a national newspaper: "Thanks for leaving me and my daughter and about 20 others stranded in Majorca without any luggage. No vouchers, no contact, no advice."
