North East revellers are likely to sink the most pints this Christmas party season - as the country plans to spend a staggering £2.1billion on festive bashes. Partygoers from Sunderland budget £122.50 on average for their main festive night out, while those from Middlesbrough earmark slightly less with £99.60, the survey revealed.
This is a huge leap up from the national average of just £70.40 for the celebrations - and two-thirds (65%) of those quizzed said they plan to attend a Christmas party. This equates to a whopping £2.1billion being splashed out by consumers and pumped into the economy across the UK, according to the 2,000 Brits polled by fashion retailer QUIZ.
The research highlighted that Londoners look set to be the biggest spenders at Christmas parties and events this year, splashing an average of £133.60 per event. However if Londoners enjoy a takeaway and four pints they'll end up spending £31, whereas up in Sunderland the equivalent costs just £19.89.
This means that while Sunderland's £122.50 is slightly lower than Londoners' average budget, those living in the North East city appear likely to be planning to buy a lot more drinks than those in the South. Newport residents are likely to be thriftiest with their budget, allowing just £10.90 for upcoming festive parties and events.
Four pints of beer plus a takeaway will set you back £20.00 on average in the city, meaning consumers won’t be partying too hard this December. But despite billions being poured into the economy by many revellers, not everyone plans to splash out this festive season.
One in six Brits who celebrate Christmas (16%) will be ditching festive parties and events this year due to rising cost of living. A further one in six (17%) won't be attending Christmas events or parties in 2022, but said this wasn't related to cost of living and instead will be due to other factors.
It’s the older generations who will be shunning Christmas parties and events this year due to cost of living, with a quarter of both 55–64-year-olds, and 65+ year olds, admitting they'll do so. The Irish city of Derry was found to have the highest number of residents skipping their Christmas do due to cost of living (38%), with Newport (36%), and Aberdeen (32%) following closely behind.
Fashion retailer QUIZ polled 2,000 Brits about the nation's plans for the upcoming Christmas party season, and when they begin to plan those all-important outfits. When it comes to planning for their big night out, one in nine (11%) begin weighing up their outfit options up to two months ahead of their Christmas event.
A super-organised 5% even shared that they think about their outfit all year round. That said, 5% of Brits admit they leave the planning of their festive party outfit until the day before, and a further fifth (21%) said they don't plan at all.
Sadly, for 930,000 (2%) UK adults who celebrate Christmas, the festive spirit never arrives. The nation’s biggest grinches can be found in Warrington, with one in six (17%) residents admitting they never feel in the festive spirit.
Peterborough (11%), Coventry (9%), Bradford (9%), and Dundee (8%) also had high numbers of residents who fail to feel that Christmas magic. Zara Masson, Senior Digital Marketing Manager for QUIZ, said: "We know it’s early, but as big Christmas-lovers it’s great to see so many Brits already getting into the festive spirit and making plans for the upcoming party season.
"As a brand, we truly believe that picking out the perfect outfit is a big part of the fun. It was interesting to discover just how many people plan so far in advance for festive events and equally how many leave doing so until the very last minute.
"Whether you’re planning to attend a Christmas party in the coming weeks, or enjoying a more low-key celebration at home, we believe looking and feeling glamorous this party season doesn’t have to cost the earth.
