The Met Office has revealed when the nation should next expect flurries of snow falling this month as sub zero temperatures approach.
The nation was hamstrung shortly before Christmas when snowfall caused issues for road users as well as passengers on trains for several days.
Rumours had swirled more will fall by the end of the weekend.
But the Met Office says it expects the mercury to stay at around the same as expected for the time of the year, with no chance of snow fall except in the high mountain ranges.
A spokesman for the Met Office said: “This weekend we expect temperatures across the UK to be near normal to mild for the time of year.
“It is very likely the tops of the mountains in Scotland will see some snow on the seventh (of January), but it won’t be widespread or at low levels.
“This would not be the first snow of 2023 – it has been snowing on the Scottish mountains this morning, and we also had snow warnings out for parts of Scotland on New Year’s Day.”
Last month a major incident was declared when as thousands of homes face days without power in freezing temperatures.
People living in the Shetland Islands in Scotland reported a blackout with the Scottish Government Resilience Room meeting to discuss the impacts of the power outages.
The snow and ice caused mayhem across Britain this morning , amid widespread disruption and forced schools, roads and airports to close due to the cold weather.
Huge numbers of passengers had their travel plans thrown into chaos by the wintery weather.
Heavy snowfall caked runways, trainlines and motorways, resulting in lengthy delays for commuters and holidaymakers.
More than 100 flights due to serve UK airports were cancelled with Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Manchester and London City airports among the worst affected.
Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester all have had to close a runway, resulting in massive backlogs of passengers.
It comes as it was revealed Britain is set to shiver in -9C temperatures later this month thanks to a pool of frozen air heading south from the Arctic.
Forecasters and meteorologists are keeping watch on the polar conditions amid fears it could develop into a sudden stratospheric warming event.
It is feared it could happen in the coming days, triggering freezing conditions , snow and ice.
The hellish frozen picture would cause a nightmare for people relying on the roads and rail services.
With the looming spectre of more strikes, it would make a very unhappy new year for millions.
