According to weather maps by WXCharts, which pulls data from Met Desk, the UK is in for a temperature boost starting Wednesday, March 5. Aberdeen could see highs of 16°C—warmer than Athens, where temperatures are expected to peak at 15°C around the same time.
By Wednesday evening, temperatures in many parts of the UK will be sitting comfortably between 11°C and 12°C, while the southeast could hit an unseasonably mild 14°C by Thursday night. Cities set to enjoy the balmy conditions include London, Surrey, Reading, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Peterborough, and Northampton, all expected to hover around 13°C-14°C.

This marks a big shift from the unsettled weather of late, but don’t pack away your winter gear just yet. Forecaster James Madden from Exacta Weather is warning of a “late wintry blast” just before the warm spell kicks in. He predicts a return to cold conditions around February 28, with the potential for snow lasting anywhere from two to five days in various parts of the UK and Ireland.
And it might not be the last of winter, either. Madden and the Met Office both suggest another round of cold weather could hit towards the end of the month, with further wintry spells expected in March and even April.

The Met Office is also forecasting some unsettled conditions for March, saying we’re likely to see a “split in weather conditions” across the country. In its long-range forecast from March 3 to March 12, it predicts high pressure will dominate in the south at first, bringing plenty of dry and fine weather, with the usual risk of night frosts and morning fog. However, as the month progresses, the chance of more unsettled conditions creeping in across the UK increases.
So, while next week’s warm spell will be a welcome change, it looks like we’re still in for a rollercoaster ride of weather. Keep your sunglasses and scarves handy—you might need both!
