In a new boost for Newcastle's dining scene, four favourite city restaurants have been named among the best in the UK.
OpenTable has announced the top 100 'most beloved' restaurants that left a lasting impression upon diners in 2022. And, revealing its list in alphabetical order, Newcastle 's success was shown in top spot.
OpenTable drew up the list according to diner ratings during the year. The four city restaurants making the list are 21, Blackfriars, The Broad Chare and The French Quarter.

The online reservation site analysed more than 1.4 million reviews from restaurants across the UK, all of which had been submitted by verified OpenTable diners. It says: "The result is a selection of spots across the country that leave a lasting impression."
There were, for instance, 4,175 reviews for Terry Laybourne's 21 with comments including "thoroughly enjoyed our lunch" at the Quayside restaurant. It's yet another measure of success for the award-winning restaurateur who also pioneered the food menu at The Broad Chare nearby.
And this self-proclaimed 'proper pub' came in from lavish praise from one of its 2,413 reviewers who wrote: "I can never say enough good things about this place. This is the third time we’ve been and we will come again the next time we are in Newcastle."
The reviewer added: "Abby, the lady who served us, remembered the last time we were there which was so nice. So warm and friendly. The food is excellent. Four out of five of us had the Game Pie and it was fantastic. They just do the best pies here.
"My husband remarked on how perfectly kept the Guinness was and the house red was delicious as well. This is one of the best run places I’ve ever been to. No mean feat. Pat the manager on the back!"
Another regular award-winner, the historic Blackfriars in Friars Street - which earlier this year was singled out by OpenTable for brunch and Sunday lunch - received 4,995 reviews including one saying: "Excellent food. Friendly staff. Great ambience, made a lovely friends. Christmas night out."
The French Quarter, in Arch 6 on Westgate Road, received praise in 1,156 reviews which included: "Fabulous French food in a warm environment. Vive La France!" For more information and Open Table's full list of the Top 100 Most Beloved Restaurants in the UK 2022 see here.
