The UK's first porn addiction treatment has been launched after a pilot study was granted ethical approval. The free programme helps people struggling with unwanted sexual behaviours and is the only professional-led course available online.
Dr Paula Hall and her team at The Laurel Centre, in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, are behind the effort, reports Birmingham Live. The course has six steps of recovery and is divided into two parts consisting of 60 podcasts accompanied by workbooks and further resources.
The pilot study, carried out in partnership with Leeds Trinity University, sets out to better understand how users engage with the course and to objectively assess their results.
Users have access to the programme free of charge as they are asked to complete a series of surveys for taking part. Dr Hall, an accredited sexual and relationship psychotherapist with over 20 years' experience, said: "We are thrilled to announce that we have received ethical approval for the Pivotal Recovery Course. To be able to offer help to those directly suffering from addiction and raise awareness of these issues is something we are extremely passionate about.
"My message to those struggling with compulsive sexual behaviours or porn addiction would be to seek help. If you or a loved one are feeling overwhelmed, or that you cannot tackle this alone, there is always help available."
