The top historic sites in the UK have been revealed, with three of them easily reached from Liverpool.
The attractions were ranked in a survey taken by almost 3,000 Which? members, looking at nine criteria including overall value of money, helpfulness of staff and lack of crowds. The top spot was shared by Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire and Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh.
Three Cheshire-based sites have made the list of the best sites, with all three making an ideal day out from Liverpool. Quarry Bank in Wilmslow, Lyme Park in Disley and Tatton Park in Knutsford have all been recognised in the survey.

Quarry Bank scored 84% in the ranking. The working mill is owned by the National Trust and enables guests to discover a complete industrial community. You can learn about what it was like to work in a cotton mill, experience heritage machinery in action and find out about the life of Quarry Bank's founder, Samuel Greg.
Explore the domestic life of the Greg family in their home, Quarry Bank House and wander through picturesque gardens, or take a guided tour of the Apprentice House. The estate also boasts acres of woodland to explore, ideal for spotting wildlife and enjoying scenic views.
Lyme Park scored 78% in the ranking and is a large National Trust estate consisting of a mansion house and surrounded by formal gardens and a deer park in the Peak District National Park. The 1,400 acre estate has a herd of red deer and was once a great sporting estate in its heyday.
The site is an ideal place for those looking to enjoy taking in stunning views on a walk. Explore the elegant Rose Garden, Ravine Garden or the herbaceous borders next to the reflecting lake where Mr Darcy met Miss Bennet in the BBC production of Pride and Prejudice. Head into the house where you can step back in time to the Regency era.
Scoring 70% in the Which? survey, Tatton Park is home to a Tudor Old Hall, neo-classical mansion, 50 acres of landscaped gardens, 1,000 acres of deer park, a rare breed farm and a medieval Old Hall. Visit Tatton Dale Farm, a picture of rural life where time has stood still since the 1930s. Children can enjoy an adventure play area, woodland play trail and den building zone.
