UK's biggest ever lottery winners to reveal themselves after scooping £184m jackpot

The lucky couple who won £184 million on the EuroMillions lottery will be named publicly tomorrow. The pair, who are understood to be from Gloucestershire, broke the record for the highest amount of money won in a lottery game in the UK by more than £14 million and have understandably been celebrating their huge win ever since.

Before the pair won the eye-watering sum - more than the estimated worth of singer Adele (£130 million) and Black Sabbath's Ozzy Osbourne and his music manager wife Sharon (£150 million) - the previous record for a lottery win in the UK was £170 million, won by a single ticketholder in October 2019. That winner chose to stay anonymous - but the new record-holders have decided to spill all on their life-changing win.

The pair are set to talk to the press tomorrow (Thursday, May 19) and will share how they felt when they realised their numbers had come up in the draw - and what they intend to spend their winnings on, reports The Mirror.

Ahead of their interview, a spokesperson for Camelot, which runs the National Lottery, gave an insight into what we can expect to hear from the pair. "They share some of their plans for the win and how it will transform the lives of their whole family," they said.

It's not yet known what village, town or city the winning couple are from, who they are or where they bought their lucky ticket - but lottery players up and down the country are keen to find out. Typically, between 80 million and 100 million people across Europe buy tickets for the EuroMillions draw each week but, of course, there are only a handful of big winners each draw.

The incredible win comes a year after five UK ticketholders banked millions in the EuroMillions jackpots. One lucky winner scooped £122.5million, whilst another was laughing all the way to the bank with a cool £111million.

The biggest winners to ever go public, so far, are Frances and Patrick Connolly who won more than £114 million on New Year's Day in 2019. The incredibly lucky couple from County Armagh in Northern Ireland won with a Lucky Dip ticket - and celebrated their win with a cuppa.

Frances and Patrick Connolly won more than £114 million on New Year's Day in 2019 - and they've reportedly already given away more than half of their winnings to charities and causes (PA)

Back in 2019, when a single ticketholder won £170 million - now the second highest amount to be won on a lottery in the UK - they chose to keep their identity a secret from the public. At the time, senior winners' advisor at The National Lottery and Camelot, Andy Carter said: "This is absolutely incredible news! Last night saw history made with the biggest ever National Lottery prize won by a single UK ticket-holder, and we’re ecstatic that we’ve now received a claim.

"Our focus now is on supporting the ticket-holder through the process and helping them start to enjoy their truly life-changing and record-breaking win."

It's hoped the newest EuroMillions winners will also receive substantial support with their new financial security.
